Breast Pump and Scale Rentals
Breast Pump and Scale Rentals

Fact:  Whether breastfeeding or breastpumping, the amount of milk removed and its fat content are similar.

Mother Nurture offers rentals of Medela Symphony and Lactina Hospital-Grade Breastpumps. The Symphony and Lactina are currently used in local hospitals. Moms who need to begin pumping to establish their milk supply while baby is still in the hospital will receive the kit in the hospital. The kit includes the individual pieces which should not be shared (basically everything but the motor). Moms who choose to rent a pump for a short time instead of purchasing a quality pump or Moms who need a hospital grade pump after hospital discharge will need to purchase their kit.

Why Rent a Hospital Grade Breast Pump?
There is a difference between hospital grade breast pumps and purchase pumps.  A hospital grade breast pump is designed to establish a milk supply that a baby is unable to establish.  A high quality purchase pump is designed to maintain a milk supply that a baby has already established.  Moms may need or choose to rent a pump for many different reasons.  The most common reasons are:
  • Baby is sick, premature and/or in NICU
  • Baby has special health care needs
  • Breastfeeding gets off to a rough start or troubles arise later that cause a decrease in milk supply
  • Mom will be having surgery or will be separated from baby for an extended period
  • Mom is taking medication or undergoing medical treatment that is contraindicated for breastfeeding and wants to keep up supply to return to breastfeeding later.
  • Mom is not committed to pumping long-term or wants to see how it is going to go before purchasing a pump.
In some of these situations, the lactation consultants at the hospital will assist Mom with starting to pump during her hospital stay.

What to expect:
It is recommended that you call ahead to ensure that the breast pump or scale you need is available.  While we usually have plenty in stock, there are occassional times when all of our pumps are rented out.  When coming in to rent a breast pump,
expect that it will take about 15 minutes to complete the contract and rental process.  You will need a valid driver’s license or state issued ID card and a valid credit card (VISA or MasterCard).  This information will be kept on file until the pump is returned.  Renewals can be processed over the phone.  We will give you a reminder call a few days before your breast pump is due.  If the pump is not returned on the due date, your credit card will be charged the monthly rental fee.  We will continue to charge the monthly rental fee for 3 months.  If, after 3 months, we havent heard from you, you will be charged the current purchase price of the breast pump or scale.
